Groundwater is higher than normal at the Compton borehole, but over 10m lower than during winter, and falling thirty centimetres each day. Only minimal groundwater flood impacts are expected, potentially still intermittently affecting a small number of properties close to the village green Stoughton. Only brief periods of rain are forecast over the coming week and into June 2024. Groundwater is expected to continue to fall, although not fast. Flood impacts will continue to ease in Stoughton and Walderton. All groundwater flood impacts will probably have disappeared entirely by June 2024. Long term weather and flood forecasting is extremely difficult. However, if we have an average or drier than average few months, groundwater might fall nearer to normal by August 2024. Groundwater is not expected to rise again until autumn or winter 2024. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will re-issue this Flood Alert when new instances of groundwater flooding are thought possible.
